Historic Barret Place Estate Sale in Shreveport
The hottest and most exclusive estate sale in northwest Louisiana for 2024 is set to kickoff this week. The Barret Place Estate Sale will start on Feb. 22 and will run through Feb. 24.
This estate is notable for its collection of European and American antique furnishings. Cindy Wilkinson owner of Estate Pros said, “The biggest thing about this house is who it belonged to and the history that happened here.”
The Barret Place was home to the Barret family until the mid 1990s when Charles Bingley Amie an oil and gas tycoon acquired the whole estate. “He was a man of his own taste,” said longtime housekeeper Elizabeth Eason.
The Barret family is notable for its linage and connection to Louisiana politics. Lt. Governor Thomas Charles Barret built the Barret Place in 1908 on his father’s land. This estate is unique because it sits in the heart of the historic Highland neighborhood on 2.93 acres.
The 6,000 square foot estate in the 2500 block of Fairfield Ave. is endured with traditional interiors designed for comfortable southern living. It was recently placed on the market for $1.2 million.
Inside this beautiful home is pieces from the Barret family and the complete library of Thomas C. Barret, housed in four rare seven-stack Globe-Wernicke barrister bookcases. As well as an extensive collection of European and American antique furniture and art from Amie’s collection.
“Every piece in here was hand selected,” said Wilkinson. “It could have been from an auction or an estate sale in Michigan or it could have come from Europe… Mr. Amie enjoyed the thrill of the hunt. He enjoyed the negotiations, and he appreciated fine things.”
Here are just a few of the collection items being offered:
- Simpson Winston and several other early 1800’s tallcase clocks
