BUFFALO, N.Y. — Thanksgiving is exactly one week away. While some families are putting the final touches on their travel and dinner plans, some are already celebrating.

The Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers had its annual luncheon and community dinner. It’s returning after being gone for three years due to COVID. 

This year, the tradition returned for its 35th year. 

“We don’t realize there’s a lot of people that don’t have all the festivities to do for the holiday season, and we believe in being good neighbors and being there for people who may not have anyone else,” said CEO of the BFNC, Chandra Redfern. 

Seniors got to enjoy food from A Great Plate Catering, all while jamming for music from Greg Tredwell’s band. 

“I like the longevity of it. I like the history of it. I know how long it’s been going on. I see Mother Rich’s name is still there, front and center in the building. I mean, it is Thanksgiving, and people often celebrate it in all sorts of different ways,” Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes said. 

It’s a great time for seniors; especially, after enduring so much this year. 

“For us to get together on a positive note. Everyone is smiling and enjoying. We’ve had so many tragedies these past years so, it’s time to see smiling faces,” senior Julie Clark said.
