5 fun events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the South Shore

QUINCY – From a parade in what may be the most Irish town in America to a 5k road race, the South Shore goes all out for St. Patrick’s Day.
It’s time to break out your green clothing, Irish or not. Here are some events on the South Shore where you can celebrate the Irish this month, leading up to holiday on Sunday, March 17. Sláinte!
The 14th annual Marshfield St. Patrick’s Day 5k road race will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. The race will benefit the Marshfield Education Foundation. Visit marshfieldstpatricksday5k.com for more information.
Starland Sportsplex and Fun Park will host a St. Patrick’s Day party from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 16. The event will include Irish step dancers, a dance-off, bouncy castles, crafts and more. Starland Sportsplex and Fun Park is located at 637 Washington St., Hanover.
The Irish Cultural Centre will host a full day of St. Patrick’s festivities with live music, Irish dancing, and activities. The event will take place 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at 200 New Boston Drive, Canton.
The party will continue on St. Patrick’s Day with an all-day celebration including live music, Irish dancing and true Irish culture. The event will take place 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 17. For more information, visit irishculture.org.
Irish historian and musician Sean Murphy will give a virtual talk about Ireland and its long and storied history, which began 430 million years ago. The presentation includes topics like the Gaels, the Vikings’ invasion, and the famine of the 1840s, plus much more.

The most Irish town in America will host the South Shore’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17. Pipe and drum bands, floats and other musical acts, will traverse the roughly 2-mile route from the old Gates Middle School to the Scituate Harbor Community Center on Jericho Road.
Attendees can use the parking lots at Scituate High School, which will have shuttle busses to the starting area of the parade, and at Widows Walk Golf Course parking lot, where shuttle buses will pick up and be dropping parade goers off at the corner of 1st Parish Road and Front Street. Shuttles will begin at 11 a.m.
