Famous CT pizzeria honoring well-known actor for Oscars night

Are you a fan of New Haven pizza? You may be ordering one beloved pie under a different name for Oscars night.

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is renaming their White Clam Bacon pie to the “Paul Giamatti Pie” after the actor shared his love of the pizza on Jimmy Kimmel Live, according to a release.

“We are honored by Paul’s glowing endorsement of Pepe’s,” said Jennifer Bimonte-Kelly, granddaughter of Frank Pepe. “We love seeing him when he visits New Haven and we’ve always admired his good taste. We’ll be rooting for him on March 10th – over pizza, of course.”

Paul Giamatti has lived in New Haven as his now late father, A. Bartlett Giamatti, was president of Yale University and then baseball commissioner. In fact, the younger Giamatti told The Courant in 2009 that he does not want to be buried in New Haven’s Grove Street Cemetery (an auspicious location full of history’s well-known figures). But he would neither confirm nor deny that he is a member of Yale’s Skull and Bones Society.

The 99-year-old pizza brand is also planning to donate its pies during the first week of March to non-profit organizations, including The Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and People Helping People.
