Perry residents mark the start of Dogwood Festival celebrations

Festival organizers promise this to be a fun-filled event for the whole family, with over 100 vendors and a huge kid zone.

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents gathered in historic downtown Perry, to plant their official Dogwood Tree on Thursday, marking the beginning of the Dogwood Festival celebrations. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the festival, which has become a much-anticipated spring event for the city.

In addition to celebrating the Dogwood Festival, the city is also commemorating its 200th year.

“This is the 200th birthday of the city by planting the tree, it is our way at the Perry area chamber to give back to the community with the beautification of the city of Perry,” said Maggie Schuyler, the President and CEO of Perry Area Chamber of Commerce. “So with it being the Dogwood Trees, the official tree of the city of Perry, we decided to be able to plant a tree for the 200 celebration and their birthday, as well as the celebration of the 35th annual Dogwood Festival.”
