St. Joseph Dinner, half-day retreat on aging
Tinley Park
St. Stephen Deacon and Martyr Catholic Church, 17500 S. 84th Ave.: Annual St. Joseph Dinner on March 9 in the Fr. Jay Finno Parish Life Center. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Tickets cost $25 per person for adults, $10 for children 6 to 13 and free for children 5 and younger. Winston’s Market will cater the dinner which includes chicken marshalls, Italian sausage, pasta salad, oven-roasted potatoes, eggplant parmesan, mostaccioli and dessert. Water and pop will be sold. BYOB available but participants are asked to not bring coolers.

Flossmoor
Flossmoor Community Church, 2218 Hutchison Road: Aging Grace from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2 at the Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. The retreat is designed for the “sandwich generation” and the people who raised them. The Rev. Dawnn Pirani Brumfield will lead a half-day retreat focusing on connection, learning and empowerment to navigate the challenges and joys of planning, caregiving and aging together. A continental breakfast will be served from 9 to 10 a.m., with the formal program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by lunch.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Cheryl Woodson, a health science educator and award-winning author of “The Doctor Is In: Answering Your Questions About How To Survive Caregiving.” Presentations, performances, resources and prizes will be part of the retreat. Cross of Glory, 14719 W. 163rd St.: Collection of bedding through the end of February for children in DCFS foster care. New and gently used bedding, such as sheets, pillow cases, mattress pads and blankets will be accepted. New pillows also are needed, as well as some kid-sized backpacks and kid suitcases. St. Germaine Parish, 9711 S. Kolin Ave.: Fish frys from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday through March 22. It’s offered by the Athletic Association and Men’s Club. The all-you-can eat dinners, which include baked potato or fries and coleslaw are $15. Meatless pasta dinner with bread costs $8. Grilled cheese with fries, $6; cheese pizza or baked potato, $4. The Center, 12700 Southwest Highway: Loving-Kindness Meditation (Metta) from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Mondays. All are welcome to gather in the Forest View Room for 45 minutes of getting centered for the beginning of a new year. Metta includes a silent meditation, but it is primarily a group prayer for peace in the world beginning with individuals. No registration is necessary.
