State Sen. Langerholc to Host Property Tax/Rent Rebate Events in Centre County

State Sen. Wayne Langerholc Jr. will host two upcoming events in Centre County to assist constituents with preparing forms for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.

The events will be held:
• 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Holt Memorial Library, 17 N. Front St., Philipbsurg
• 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the Ferguson Township Municipal Building, 3147 Research Drive, State College

Income-qualified Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers 50 or older and people with disabilities 18 or older are eligible for the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. For the first time in more than a decade, the income-eligibility limit was raised for 2024 to $45,000 a year for both owners and renters, expanding rebate opportunities to an additional 175,000 residents.

Rebates can range from $380 to $1,000 depending on income, according to the state revenue department. Only half of Social Security income is included in calculations, Langerholc’s office noted.

To complete the rebate process at the event, participants should bring 2023 documents as appropriate, including total Social Security/Railroad Retirement; proof of Supplemental Security Income or disability; driver’s license or photo ID for proof of age; 1099 pension, interest and dividend statements; proof of W-2 or other income if received; and a voided check showing routing and account numbers if you wish to have rebate direct deposited.

Other 2023 documents necessary if appropriate are proof of taxes paid either stamped or signed by the tax collector for property owners, and a rent certificate filled out and signed by a landlord for renters.

State Rep. Paul Takac has also held a series of Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program seminars around Centre County, with one remaining from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, March 1 at the Boggs Township Building, 1290 Runville Road, Bellefonte..

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is one of five programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery.
