I’m a gardening expert… you can kill weeds without using harmful chemicals
- @stylecuratorau revealed how to make the inexpensive solution on TikTok
Weeds are often a very literal thorn in many horticulturalists’ plans, as they consistently inhibit the growth of plants in your garden.
As spring draws ever closer, many gardeners will be looking to get to work on their home patches ahead of sunnier spells of weather.
To help them, a gardening expert has revealed how to kill weeds without using harmful chemicals for the cost of just 7p.
Sharing a video on TikTok, under her handle @stylecuratorau, Gina revealed how you only need three ingredients to make her special weed-killing solution.
In a voiceover throughout the video, she said: ‘Here’s a trick to kill your weeds naturally and effortlessly.
‘Combine 1one litre of white vinegar with three-quarters of a cup of salt, and three tablespoons of dishwashing liquid.
‘Give it a good stir and spray it directly onto your weeds. Within days, they’ll shrivel and die.’
She also said that you can spray it on to any weeds in your garden or pour the solution on them directly, saying they would die within days.
Other keen gardeners on the platform were quick to point out that there could be an even cheaper option.
One user advised people to ‘just use boiling water’.
A second echoed this idea, adding: ‘Boiling hot water also does the trick’.
A third suggested that ‘sprinkling salt on them’ may also help to kill weeds once and for all in your garden.
Another joked: ‘Just shoot them!’
It comes after garden retailer Thompson’s revealed their solution on how to weed out snails and slugs from gardens – and that’s by using garlic.
A bulb of garlic costs as little as 20p, depending on where you shop, making it a cost effective trick, as well as being natural.
They said: ‘One of the best ways that are backed by some of the most expert breeders and growers is the garlic and water solution.
‘It is a natural way to deter both slugs and snails, which won’t do any harm to the environment.’
To create the homemade spray, you’d need to start by boiling two full bulbs of garlic in a saucepan or pot of water.
Get out as much garlic ‘juice’ as you can by squashing the bulbs down by using the flat of a knife, a wooden rolling pin or a mortar and pestle.
Next, pour the liquid through a sieve and dilute with two tablespoons in five litres of water to spray or water onto your plants.
Gardeners are advised to use the spray once a week, especially after it rains, to achieve the best results.
