Pune: Social Activist Issues Legal Notice To PMC and Police Commissioner Over Traffic Chaos in Viman Nagar
Qaneez, who is also an RTI activist, has taken a significant step by sending a legal notice to the authorities concerning these matters. She emphasized that this action is for the greater good of the public.
She highlighted several problems faced by residents, such as traffic rerouting in Viman Nagar, access to parking from Airport Terminal Two, and the need for better road infrastructure due to increased air traffic after the new terminal opening.
Despite repeated requests, the authorities have not held any joint meetings with Qaneez and have shown little interest in addressing these issues. This neglect demonstrates a lack of responsibility towards the concerns of Viman Nagar residents.
Qaneez stressed the importance of proper traffic planning, suggesting that airport terminals should only connect to VIP Airport Road or Symbiosis Road to avoid disturbing residential areas.
She warned that if authorities don’t take action, residents will suffer from severe traffic congestion, more accidents, increased pollution, wasted time, and intrusion of commercial activities into residential zones. This neglect would violate residents’ rights to a peaceful and healthy living environment.
Qaneez reminded the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Police Department of their duty to protect residents’ rights by ensuring proper infrastructure planning and implementation. She urged the authorities to arrange a meeting within four days to discuss and address these issues. If they fail to do so, she will seek legal intervention to resolve the matter.
