Tulsans Gather To Celebrate Lunar New Year

Saturday is one of the largest holidays in the world, the Lunar New Year.

About 2 billion people, many in Asia, celebrate the holiday that’s based on the phases of the moon.

Tulsa’s growing Asian community is ringing in the year of the dragon with traditions like firecrackers, lion dancing, praying and handing out lucky red envelopes.

Hundreds of people were at Tao Bao Buddhist Temple in Tulsa on Friday to mark the new year, including News On 6’s Chinh Doan and her family.

“We had a blast being a part of the festivities and traditions,” Doan said.
