Civil rights panel plans fourth session to look into COVID-19’s impact on education

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Right has scheduled its fourth session to take testimony about the impact of COVID-19 on K-12 education and mental health.

The focus of the hearings is on the impact on disparately impacted communities.

The committee will take testimony via zoom on March 6 at 11 a.m

A panel will present testimony and members of the public can offer their experiences during an open comment period.

“The committee finds it crucial to identify and address any gaps that exist in disparately impacted areas and look forward to hearing from diverse panelists on the lingering impacts on their communities,” said Nikitah Imani, the committee’s chair, in a press release.

The Nebraska committee will provide its finding to the U.S. Commission, along with recommendations.
