North Norfolk photography competition hopes to celebrate older people

A third of people living in north Norfolk are over the age of 65 – but more than 60pc of them are in good health, according to 2021 Census data.

Now, North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has teamed up with the North Norfolk Health and Wellbeing Partnership to run a photography competition promoting age positivity.

The competition aims to celebrate the value of older residents in the district ahead of Ageism Action Day.

The competition is open to everyone, closing on March 18.

There are cash prizes for the top three entries: £75 for first place, £50 for second and £25 for third.

Liz Withington, portfolio for community, leisure and outreach at NNDC, said: “It is so important that people keep active, socially connected and challenge themselves to try new things as they get older.

“Using positive images of older people is therefore also important to reinforce that message across our communities.

“This competition will, I’m sure, reflect positively all the adventurous, interesting and challenging activities that many older people in our communities are involved with as part of their daily lives.”
