NASCAR fans travel to Bristol for Food City 500 | WJHL

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) – On Sunday, thousands of race fans took to the Bristol Motor Speedway grounds ahead of the Food City 500. While some fans were happy to return to BMS, others were experiencing the grandstands for the first time.

“It’s a lot bigger than I expected,” said Will Signor, a NASCAR fan who came from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

“It’s pretty incredible to see all the people,” said Henry Barnett, a NASCAR fan from South Carolina.

Barnett and his wife, Lucy, traveled to Bristol to experience Lucy’s first NASCAR race.

“I started watching it with him and I just got hooked,” said Lucy. “And so for Christmas, he said we were coming here.”

Lucy said she was excited for her first race.

“Just watching it in real life,” said Lucy. “You know, we watch it on TV.”

Will and Jordan Signor have attended NASCAR races before, but never at Bristol. Will said this experience is unlike that at any other stadium.

“They can’t really compare because it’s way bigger than any other track,” said Will.

Both Will and Jordan said they have high hopes for the race.

“Hopefully [to see] Denny Hamlin winning,” said Will.

“[I’m] just looking forward to having fun today,” said Jordan.
