National Youth Violence Prevention Week events in Louisville 2024
It’s all part of National Youth Violence Prevention Week.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Youth Cabinet, with the help of the Sandy Hook Promise Organization, will be hosting youth violence awareness events all week long as part of National Youth Violence Prevention Week (NYVPW).
According to the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, NYVPW is a national campaign that is community centered and aims to tackle youth violence.
Louisville has been given special permission to host these events earlier, as there are anticipated Kentucky Derby events happening April 22 through April 26. That’s when most other cities will have their events.
According to the city’s Gun Violence Dashboard, people ages 18 to 24 make up more than 36% of homicides in Louisville.
“The Metro Youth Cabinet wants to help our forge a new narrative, which has started – reimagining our city, where gun violence has no place and where the regard for life is the number one value,” Raileigh Stewart, a Cabinet member who represents metro district 14, said.
