Ageing Well Festival starts

The Ageing Well Festival is a two-week festival of celebrations and events for older people in Brighton & Hove. It starts today and runs until Friday 13 October.

The festival is a special celebration of opportunities available all year across the city for residents aged 50+ to stay connected and active.

This year is the biggest yet, with over 80 event organisers hosting more than 130 events in venues throughout the city.

There are the usual favourites such as the Vintage Routemaster Bus Tour with Brighton & Hove Buses and then new events such as Cooking With Momma Cherri and the Sunset Boat Tour with Sussex Dolphin Society. There are also plenty of creative workshops, talks, sports, exercise, advice, music, art, dancing and much more at venues across the city.

Events happen throughout the day and into the evening on most days.

Many events are free, and the paid ones are at special reduced rates for the festival.

Councillor Ty Galvin, lead for Ageing Well said: “It’s fantastic to see the Ageing Well Festival return and I’m pleased to see such a great selection of in person events again this year.

“While it’s great that so many people take up these activities, we must continue to let people know about the free and low-cost opportunities all year round in the city so all older people can get together with others.

“We need to remember those who are digitally excluded too. We need to ensure they have the information and support they need, and make sure they know these face-to-face groups are available so that we don’t leave them isolated.”
